Housing Confirmation

Todays I signed the HOAS housing confirmation (which was sent by mail a few days ago) and payed the deposit to HOAS. It was the first time I used the English interface of my internet banking account. That's great, if you're able to print out your payment confirmation in English. The Finns will be glad about that *gg*.

Furthermore I filled out the solicitation for a grant by our provincial government (Land Niederösterreich). That's quite a lot of money and you just have to fill out 4 pages and add 3 more pages as attachment (that's really nothing for Austria *gg*). If I'm lucky, I can expect arround EUR 1.000 as a grant for my period of stay in Finland. Let's see.

Tomorrow I'll go to the post office to get rid of these two letters. Please keep your fingers crossed for me to be able to receive the grant ^^.

Here we go!

EILC - Cancellation

Hello girls and guys,

A few days ago, I received my confimation letter of EILC - Erasmus Intensive Language Course. They offered me a language course in Joensuu, in the eastern part of Finland near the border to Russia.
I thought that EILC courses will start mid August but I was informed that my one in Finland would start at 4 August. Unfortunately I'm not able to participate because of personal time problems and appointments which I wasn't able to postpone. So I already sent my cancellation email to the EILC buero in Helsinki. Now another student is happy to get my place anyway.

Last week I also received my housing confirmation of HOAS (the housing service for students in Finland). I have to pay a deposit of EUR 500 and the first part of the rent for the 2nd half of August. My appartment is located in Kannelmäki on the 4th floor together with 2 other students. I'm excited how it will be and who they're will be ^^.
If you'd like to have a closer look on my appartment, check THIS SITE HERE.
I'll have to pay my rent this week, then I get the final confirmation. No money ... no flat ;-).

Nevertheless, I still haven't received any information about the offered courses at Metropolia university. I think I have to ask them, because I need the courses to be accepted by my university soon. So let's ask them how long I have to expect to wait further ... hmmm.

cya then,

Updates on my trip

Long time no see guys!

In the meantime there haven't been any special news concerning my study abroad semester in Helsinki. Because I applied at EVTEK university which is merging with another Helsinki university to the "Metropolia University of Applied Sciences" on 1 August 2008 it is all a bit more difficult than usual I think.

Actually, I just received my confirmation for being taken for the autumn semester which will start on 1 September 2008 and will last until 12 December 2008. I also applied for the EILC (Erasmus Intensive Language Course - Finnish) which isn't confirmed yet. I'll get the information about the status latest on 20 June 2008. Let's see and hope.

What I've prepared so far:
Ahhhm, well. Let's say ... nothing.
I just read a few websites about Finland and especially Helsinki, bought some traveller guides, searched for some webcams of Helsiki and it's greater area (wow, it's still bright outside at 11 pm, see the pic below) and checked if my health insurance card (e-card) is valid in Finland as well.
Indeed, it is. Thanx to the European Union and the "European health insurance card" which is printed on the back of the Austrian e-card.

So, what else to do then wait?
I'll be informed about the offered courses at Metrpolia within the next few days I think. As soon as I've an overview about the offered courses, I can discuss and check this with the person in charge of my home university FHWien to confirm that they accept the courses I choose (I don't wanna lear for additional exams when I'm back home ;-) ).

That's all for the moment.
I'll keep you up2date on any news.
