Lazy Saturday

This Saturday was quite lazy. I got up at arround 1pm :P and after a small breakfast I went shopping to "PRISMA" because I was running out of food.
In the evening, Seok Heon was cooking a south-korean dish for us. That was a bit spicy but taste great, I appreciate that!
Have a look:

pot with corrots, cutted sausages, potatoes and a south-korean spice-mix

can be eaten with rice or noodles (or both :-) )

Tomorrow seems to be "Golden Rax Pizzabuffet"-day for us. Pizza all you can eat, yummy :-)

Welcome party

On Friday we didn't have to go to university, we had a day off. We were able to prepare for the "welcome party for exchange students" all the day ;-).

Before going out, we cooked Tortillas with meat, vegetable and salsa sauce. It taste great but it was too much ... but that was an advantage as well (see below).

Our meeting point was a laundry room right next to our building ... a strange meeting point.

After coming back home ... 2 tortillas with some fresh salad

Just a small midnight snack

Yummy!

Course enrolment

What's the weather today?
That's easy to explain! We actually have all variations of rain: heavy rain, light rain, drizzle, ...
The clouds are appr. 1.000ft high and we have a cosy temperature of about 14°C.

That looks like:

Course enrolment
After a short course introduction of all courses offered (even our international coordinator doesn't know which courses are offered and which aren't .... it is a "little" mess actually), we got a library introduction as well. After these introductions we got the possibility to enrol to our requested courses by using a web application (called WinhaWille) in the Intranet. The courses in WinhaWille are completly mixed up as well. Some courses don't show up even if they should be availible. Some courses have a wrong study code .... Furthermore we have to check ourselves if our requested courses aren't overlapping, which was unfortunately the case for me. So I had to chance some courses to be able to get all ECTS credits.

I'm going to do the following courses in this semester:
  • Asia-Pacific as a business area
  • Information systems for business
  • Management & Organisations
  • Corporate Finance
  • Culture & Management
  • Trade, Law & Internal Market
  • Survival Finnish for foreigners
Summed up, I should get 32 ECTS credits.
Let's hope and see if the enrolment worked as it should. My schedule is okay, it looks like:
  • Monday 11.00 - 13.45
  • Tuesday 11.00 - 16.45
  • Wednesday 11.00 - 13.45
  • Thursday 14.00 - 16.45
  • Friday 09.00 - 10.45
  • some additional Saturdays as well
That's the thing for today.

Tuesdays Finland Introduction

Introduction Nr. 312
On Tuesday we met at Leppävaara unit again. Today's schedule before lunch was simple. First of all we got an introduction to the Students Affairs Office which was very quick, because we can find all information on the web as well.
Thereafter we got an introduction to Finland as well. How big is Finland, what about their population, lakes, habits, saunas, language, etc.

After lunch at the cafeteria we left the campus at 12.45 for a 2-hour-sightseeing tour.

After our tour we went back home and took the opportunity to buy some more things. On Friday we're going to cook Tortillas at home and therefore be bought all neccesary ingredients.
We have been at Prisma store in Kannelmäki, huuuugh as well. The first time a saw fresh salamon offered in a supermarket in Finland.

Evening was unspectacular at all.

First day on Myyrmäki campus

Moi and Hey!

First day on the campus
Today the "orientation week" for exchange students at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences started at 09.30. First of all we had to register ourselves and got a (transponder) key as well as a "study certificate" to proove that we're students of our university and we got our lunch card which enables us to get cheaper lunch at the cafeteria.

Registration at the lobby

At 10.00 the introduction of our university was started by Eija Tamminen, who is responsible for all Business Administration exchange students coming to Myyrmäki campus. Furthermore she supported us with some general practical information about residence permit, notification of move, travel cards for public transport, accomodation at HOAS, healthcare, international day and so on. Because I'm EU citizen I most of these things don't apply to me, so for me it was quite boring.

At 11.30 we started our lunch brake to have lunch at our cafeteria. They offer 3 or 4 different menues every day you can choose from. This meals are sold for EUR 2,60 and you can take as much salad and bread as you like. That's the perfect opportunity to get good food for less money.
The food was quite tasty ... I had something like "Würstelgulasch"with potatoes and some mixed salad.

At 13.00 we started again with the second part of the introduction. Now, the person in charge for the newly setup Intranet "tuubi" was at our place. He described how our intranet works ... unfortunately we haven't got our login details yet, so we can't use all these information we got :P.
Nevertheless, the system is still quite faulty and SLOW (even slower than the RK Baden intranet *gg*).

After a short introduction of how to find rooms within the buildings and other campuses (like Leppävaara), we ended the introduction session for today at arround 14.30.
Tomorrow we have to be at Leppävaara campus which is a bit farther than Myyrmäki, as I leave in Kannelmäki.

Some more pics of "my" Myyrmäki campus:

The new part of our campus (B-building)

A bit older than FH Wien, but modern as well

Communication isle ... like at "home"

Looking down on the lobby ... they even don't have an aquarium haha!

corridor in the older building (A-building).

Shopping
On the way from Myyrmäki campus to the train station we have to pass the Myyrmanni shopping mall, which is huge. They have a K-Citymarket which is like Eurospar in Austria or even larger (maybe as big as Carrefour stores), Intersport, Subway, Mc Donalds, Hesburger, some Cafes and many more. That's the perfect mall for allday-shopping on the way from the campus back home.

Citymarket - Eurospar

Isn't it expensive?

The citymarket offers electronic devices as well

Ah, my dinner :-).

A selection of meat and sausages

Some fresh fish, mainly salamon in all variations

My paradise - all variations, sizes, tastes of shrimps / prawns. Yeah!

The have "Wiener Schnitzel" as well. It just looks a bit different.

Did you know that there are so many variations of Pringles? Enormous!

Now, I'll go and look what I'm going to have for dinner today. :-).

A rainy and lazy Sunday

Today ... was a rainy day.
I slept looong and after a breakfast I left my room for the Kampii shopping mall in the center. I met my "German/Austrian group" at Helsinki Central station and together we passed through the shopping mall. That's the only thing you can do when it's raining outside like now.

Some pics of today:

If you'd like to compare prices ... good luck.

Yes, this IS expensive!

A nice bookstore at Kamppi mall. Here you get everything!

That one looks normal-priced.

Yeah, Simpsons, äh, Simpsonit

Shopping mall

Looking downwards to the square in front of Kamppi

5 storeys high

just in front of the mall

some flats right above Kamppi

just opposite of them, you'll get a lot of (fast) food. Kebab, PizzaHut and McDonalds *gg*.

We've found a candy shop (which we haven't looked for at all). Here you get ALL kinds of candies. Seems to be a Haribo store :P.

Going back home on this rainy day.

Today, Uncle Bens cooked for me. He offered me some tasty rice with Oriental Chili Mixed Sauce and a pot of green salat and dressing. He'll cook again for me, I think! :-D.
